a66Gallery is pleased to present Following Light, the first solo exhibition of paintings by the French artist Xarli Zurell in Spain.

Born in 1993 in the French Basque Country, he studied at the art schools of Biarritz and Nantes. Today he lives and works between Brussels and Paris.

His works originate from walks and hikes. Step by step he explores the landscape, observing contrasts and atmospheres and recording them in photographic notes. In the studio he translates this material into painting. Paths, horizons and figures are condensed into simplified forms and luminous fields of color that resemble an inner cartography.

In this process, the landscape becomes both a carrier of mood and a reflection of inner states. Zurell is interested in those quiet moments of solitude in which many things within us begin to move—memories, longing, hope. His paintings invite the viewer to look more slowly, to linger between surfaces and empty spaces, and to perceive subtle shifts. Within these quiet scenes, spaces open in which viewers can inscribe their own feelings and stories.
