Xarli Zurell

Xarli Zurell (b. 1993) is a Basque painter whose work draws on the landscapes, mythology and visual culture of the Basque Country. Moving between observation and imagination, his paintings transform familiar landscapes into vivid, often surreal scenes in which figures, objects and mythical elements create a tension between reality and fiction.

He studied Fine Arts at Beaux-Arts Biarritz and Beaux-Arts Nantes, graduating with a DNSEP in 2016. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including BOZAR Brussels and Centre d’art Les Églises, and is held in the collections of Fondation Maeght, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) and Artothèque de Nantes. In 2026, a66Gallery presented his solo exhibition Following Light in Santanyí, Mallorca.
